Shaping the image of the city

The city of Marburg has a good reason to be delighted—one of the most distinctive industrial monuments is now used in a modern way. The old Kornspeicher granary was built near the south train station in the 1930s.
We are working closely with the tourism, culture, and leisure aspects of Marburg to preserve the history of the building.

It is worth becoming acquainted with the medieval city centre of Marburg, and follow the footsteps of the past. Winding alleyways with stud work houses, enchanted paths, and small stairways leading up to the castle give the city a unique flair. Russian writer, Boris Pastemak studied in Marburg in 1919 said, “If this would just be a city! But it is a medieval fairy-tale.”

Marburg is also a vitalised and colourful university town with numerous cultural offers, leisure activities, and much more. You can reach the city centre quickly whether you use public transportation, your car, your bike, or by foot.
Marburg has something to offer for every taste: big and small cinemas, theatres, cabaret and concerts for classical and rock fans. The atmospheric uptown has many bars and restaurants, as well as multiple little shops to stroll through.

Those who love nature will love Marburg’s green surroundings and the many possible ways to leave behind daily routines—strolls along the riverside, on the lake, or in the large woodland area; and many cycling and hiking trails.
